The quote travel far enough you meet yourself by David Mitchell may seem cryptic and silly to many. But if you reflect on the meaning of this statement, there’s actually something very deep about it.
The idea is that the more experiences you have in life, the more you will find yourself diverging out into new and different places, both physically and mentally. If you travel far enough, you will eventually find yourself back at the same place you started from, but your mind will be stretched by all of your journeys along the way.

What do we have in our minds as we think about this phrase?
There are a few different ways we can interpret a phrase like traveling and far enough. If you think about it literally, there is probably some amount of distance that we need to go. In doing so, when we get to our destination, we will see everything with new eyes.
We may be surprised by what we see and change our outlook on life. This interpretation could apply to how people interact in their everyday lives.
People have prejudices, stereotypes, judgments, and biases towards other people based on where they live or grew up.
When we travel outside those communities or countries, we learn to appreciate those differences rather than hold them against others.
Another interpretation is one that focuses on feeling confident and comfortable with ourselves while being far away from where we normally hang out and spend time, at home or work. It’s easy to get on a track where we see our habits and routine as comforting. But it’s important that we push our boundaries if we are ever going to make any kind of progress in life.
So take a leap into unknown territory. Explore places that you haven’t been to before.
Expand your comfort zone, so you can change your viewpoint and gain some perspective on who you are as a person.
Traveling and meeting yourself sound amazing but how do I do it?
You can start your exploration journey in any way, that is convenient for you.
If you want to go abroad, then put some money aside and plan a vacation to a place that is completely new to you.
If your idea of traveling doesn’t include leaving your hometown, then challenge yourself in small ways. If a new movie comes out that everyone is talking about, don’t skip it just because it’s not something that usually interests you.
Try a new type of food, even if it sounds strange or unfamiliar. Go somewhere unexpected every once in a while and learn more about your community by exploring different neighborhoods.
There are endless possibilities on how you can travel far enough so that when you get there, you will finally be able to understand and appreciate who you are as an individual.
It’s important to take care of our bodies and nourish our minds. Whether you know exactly what your future goals are or not, make sure which path to follow next.
You should consider using travel as a means of understanding your own personality better.
Do you really need to go that far
If you travel far enough, you will eventually meet yourself. It’s a simple saying, and many people interpret it differently. There is no right or wrong answer as to what it means. But, as they say, you have to see something with your own eyes.
One of my favorite things about traveling is the fact that you get to experience everything for yourself because everyone has their own experience of a place when visiting.
Maybe one day you will visit somewhere familiar and discover an entirely new thing about it.
Maybe you will discover that home never changes, only your perception of home changes while you are away!
There are so many places in our world that are still unexplored, places where we haven’t been and perhaps won’t ever be.
A traveler’s soul will always want to visit as many of these places as she or he can before death. But there is a whole different meaning to meeting with some travelers, what if they don’t make it there before they die!
What if one day, somehow, someway, a traveler’s soul gets stuck on Earth forever?
How would that feel like?
How could they prove to everyone else that they are wrong about their perception of home!
Are you missing something?
The world is full of things to see that one lifetime often falls short of it.
But how often do we find ourselves going on holiday, only to come back disappointed by our lack of experiences and new knowledge gained?
With all these opportunities out there, it’s important to consider how much we are missing out on in life.
Next time you’re planning a trip abroad, challenge yourself to book that hiking trip or street food tour and get ready for an unforgettable experience that will inspire and motivate your future endeavors.
Life is too short not to take chances!
Whether it’s a one-off weekend away or something more long-term like moving overseas, sometimes you have to take risks if you want something worthwhile in return.
Don’t be afraid to explore your options, travel further than expected, and live every moment like there’s no tomorrow!
It might seem crazy at first to uproot yourself completely.
But trust me on this, once you make that leap myself, you will for sure find it worth it. Not only you would discover so many incredible places, you will also rediscover yourself along the way.
It takes courage and determination to achieve big goals, but don’t let fear hold you back from living up to your potential.
Can you change who we are based on where we travel
The saying travel far enough, and you will meet yourself isn’t literally true.
We can’t change who we are by changing where we go.
However, as a traveler, it’s possible to alter our perspective on life.
To see things differently and gain clarity that can lead to a significant change in our lives. But if we choose to ignore these insights and continue making the same mistakes, then nothing will really change in our lives at all.
It all depends on how deeply we’re willing to explore ourselves through introspection during our travels. And with self-exploration comes self-awareness. Awareness of not only who we are, but also how others perceive us.
That understanding is invaluable when it comes time for us to interact with those around us, both while traveling and while back home once again. It can even help improve communication with friends, family members, or coworkers. It may sometimes even help facilitate resolution with any lingering conflict between two parties involved.
Travel opens up new worlds for us. Sometimes, those worlds aren’t always bright and shiny, but they do serve a purpose in giving us an opportunity to learn more about ourselves through self-reflection, naturally.
Traveling allows us opportunities that don’t always exist while working at our day jobs or staying at home every day. If we use them wisely, they can lead to profound insight into who we truly are.
Why should you start traveling
One of my favorite quotes is traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things, air, sleep, dreams, water.
I think it’s so important in life to experience new things and push your boundaries. Sometimes that means traveling long distances or staying in hotels when they aren’t necessarily five-star.
If you never challenge yourself and just do what everyone else tells you, then what sort of person are you really?
Life is too short not to live it doing what you want to do, not what someone else thinks will impress people or make them happy!
So if you are offered an opportunity to go somewhere exciting but expensive which may involve getting there by motorcycle, don’t say no because of fear.
Don’t be afraid to stay out late at night alone in big cities where most people don’t speak English because who knows, maybe something amazing could happen?
The risk might outweigh any costs, don’t let anyone stop you from taking that chance, or worse regretting later on if you didn’t take up an opportunity because of fear and self-doubt.
When you get back from that trip, try to remember some funny story or something interesting that happened while you were away/what local food was tasty, etc., and tell your friends/family about it!
See, in the end, traveling makes you a storyteller.
Who would you be if you didn’t travel
Traveling is an excellent way to challenge your ideas.
Perhaps you believe it’s a good idea to overpack for trips, or maybe it’s important to be flexible and roll with whatever life throws at you.
But when faced with different situations, and potentially different cultural values, do these beliefs still hold true?
If not, what do they need to change into?
Traveling offers plenty of opportunities for self-exploration. Don’t let them pass by without taking advantage of them!
In doing so, you can get better acquainted with who you are as a person.
This will help figure out how to make informed decisions about how you want to live your life. It will also teach you to understand why certain things bother you, and where your priorities lie. It’s always easier to be comfortable when we know our own value system, and sometimes it helps us discover new perspectives.
It’s equally important though to learn from other people, regardless of their background or geography. Many people look down on others because they don’t know any better; perhaps someday we can eradicate ignorance worldwide.
How can knowing yourself by traveling make you a better person?
With traveling, they say, broadening your mind is absolutely true.
When we travel further and further away from home, we begin to understand more and more about who we are as individuals.
In order to get all that there is out of your travels, you have to know who exactly it is that’s traveling.
To do so, take time to think about what makes you a unique individual. It could be anything from your strong sense of compassion or unwillingness to back down in a situation.
Once you figure out what makes you an individual, think back on experiences in which those traits helped or hindered your success. Are there any ways you would change how those situations unfolded if you had known then who it was that traveled?
Maybe, next time a similar scenario comes up, you’ll approach things differently knowing what type of person comes along with you.
As your adventures bring you into new worlds and unfamiliar situations, learn who it is that travels with you by finding solace in your own identity.
At times, when faced with a challenge or obstacle new to you, reflect on what makes up you and use those memories of home for guidance into creating who you are going to be once arriving at your destination.
After all, knowledge truly does make us better people!
When will you stop traveling?
There comes a time in every travelers life where they start to feel that they have seen everything they want to see, or done everything they want to do. This usually happens somewhere between one and five years of traveling.
At that point, most people choose one of two options. Going home and living a normal life, or continuing traveling indefinitely.
However, I believe there is a third option. Stop traveling but keep living as if you are still on the road.
To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, here’s how it would work.
You could stop traveling for whatever reason, then find a city and country that fits your needs and make it your home base. You can still set aside two months a year or more depending on your budget to travel around South America or Southeast Asia or wherever your heart desires.
The beauty of having a home base is that you can make lots of friends, get a routine going, learn to speak Spanish or Portuguese or some other language, and still see the world for part of every year.
This way, traveling doesn’t have to end when you get tired. Instead, it becomes more like your job than anything else, you take off two months out of every year and keep going with life while surrounded by all kinds of interesting people and places.
I know it sounds crazy, but I think it might be even better than always being on the road. This idea is very popular in today’s world as well. People are now having digital business and moving around the globe/
They call themselves digital nomads.
Pretty cool term, right?
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Who said if you travel far enough you’ll meet yourself?
It is a quote by David Mitchell.
What does it mean to be yourself?
It means you are in balance with your authentic self. You are not pretending to be something else just to please other people around you.
Wrapping things up
The quote travel far enough you meet yourself can mean that traveling can help expand your worldview and make you more open to people and experiences. For some, it is also a journey of self-discovery in that when we are away from our homes, our familiar routines, and all things familiar, we have time to think.
With nothing else to do but sit on a train or go for a walk by ourselves in an unfamiliar place, we begin to reflect on who we are and what has brought us where we are.
